Luciano Soprani (Designer)
A fashion designer for essentially all of his adult life, Luciano Soprani didn't branch out into fragrances until almost 20 years into his career. Born in 1946 in Reggiolo, Italy, Soprani worked for several luxury fashion designers after leaving college. After building a strong reputation in the fashion world, he launched his own line in 1981. His work was known for its vibrant colors and disciplined tailoring.
In the next 20 years, Soprani worked closely with the Onward Kashiyama Group, a Japanese company. This connection helped Soprani to open stores in Japan as well as Italy and the United States. The Luciano Soprani flagship store is in Milan, while the most prominent U.S. location is on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, CA.
The original Luciano Soprani perfume launched in 1987. The sweet and woody fragrance features notes of cinnamon, patchouli, sandalwood, rose and amber. Soprani's first unisex fragrance, Solo Soprani, was launched in 1995. In 2014, the Soprani brand released another unisex fragrance called Fico Pesca. "Fico Pesca" translates to "fig-peach," and the top notes include fruit zests of bergamot and sweet nectarine.
When Soprani died in 1999 at the age of 53, co-founder Dilio Ortigoza took over the artistic direction of the company, and was later replaced by a new designer named Alessandro Turci in 2002. In 2006, the cosmetic group Satinine S.p.a. purchased the Luciano Soprano fashion house.
