I had to smell xx Artisan for the 10th time and still with the same conclusion, smells like alcohol with a musky smoky scent. Very disappointed. 2 thumbs down. I recommend JV VINTAGE and ARTISAN are both great.

I bought this blind. The reviews for this were on both ends of the spectrum, and I decided to try it. The bottle is very nice, as are all of John Varvatos's. The initial spray hints at tobacco/smokiness with a slightly bitter orange; then, it immediately tapers off into a warm, leathery, woodsy smell with a slight peppery undertone. It has a masculine and mature scent. It doesn't give off an old-man vibe; it's an excellent next step from your college/high school scents. It is great for the summer and is a fragrance suitable for work/everyday use. Lasts a moderate 5-7 hours.
